✳It means to “look downward” - no matter in which context it is used. It just means look down ( lower ) .
✳It literally means for a woman to lower their gaze so that men may not look upon them and find that they are beautiful.
In Islaam it means modesty in all its forms.
Ibn Mas'ud - Allah's Apostle said: “Woman is a cause of corruption. Once she goes out Satan beautifies her in the eyes of men …”
✳Actually it is for both men and women
“Tell the believing men to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private parts. That is purer for them. Indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what they do. And tell the believing women to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private parts…”[Qur’an: Chapter 24, Verses 30 - 31].
